What Settle Mexico collects, why, and how to remove it.

Last updated October 2, 2026.

What I collect

If you subscribe, I store your email address and, if you give it, your name. Nothing else is required. Reading the site doesn't require an account.

What it's used for

Sending you the Settle Mexico newsletter, a welcome email, and the sign-in emails you ask for. I don't sell or rent your details, and I don't share them with advertisers.

Who processes it

  • Ghost, the software this site runs on. It's self-hosted on a server I operate, which stores your subscription.
  • PostHog, which provides the site analytics described below.
  • Brevo, which delivers the emails. Your email address and name are stored in a Brevo list for that purpose. Brevo records whether emails are delivered, opened, and clicked.

Analytics

I use PostHog (hosted in the US) to understand how the site is used: which pages are read, where readers come from, which links they click, and whether they subscribe. PostHog stores an anonymous identifier in your browser (a cookie and local storage) and may record sessions to show how pages are used; everything typed into forms is masked in those recordings.

If you subscribe and confirm, your email address is linked to your earlier visits to this site in PostHog, so I can see which guides lead people to subscribe. It isn't used for advertising or shared with anyone.

Cookies

If you sign in, Ghost sets a cookie to keep you signed in. PostHog sets the analytics cookie described above. If you close the newsletter box that appears on guides, your browser's local storage remembers it for 30 days so it doesn't keep coming back; that note never leaves your browser. The site doesn't use advertising cookies.

Unsubscribing and deleting your data

Every email has an unsubscribe link. To have your details deleted entirely, email hello@settlemexico.com and I'll remove you from Ghost, Brevo and PostHog.
